Alkylation of alpha,omega-alkanediamines and their N,N-disubstituted derivatives with 2-(chloromethyl)pyridinium chloride in the presence of hexadecyltrimethylammonium chloride as a phase-transfer catalyst gave conveniently the corresponding N,N,N’,N’-tetrakis(2-pyridylmethyl)-alpha,omega-alkanediamines in good yields.
