An effective chiral Lewis acid-catalyzed asymmetric Baylis-Hillman reaction is described. Good to high enantioselectivities were obtained using 3 mol % chiral catalyst. Novel camphor-derived dimerized ligands were prepared from the condensation of (+)-ketopinic acid with the corresponding diamines and hydrazine under acidic conditions. When alpha-naphthyl acrylate was used as a Michael acceptor, the reaction is complete within 20 min with high stereoselectivity and in reasonable chemical yields.

Chiral metal-organic frameworks have attracted interest for enantioselective separations and catalysis because of their high crystallinity and pores with tunable shapes, sizes, and chemical environments. Chiral frameworks of the type M2(dobpdc) (M = Mg, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Zn; dobpdc4- = 4,4?-dioxidobiphenyl-3,3?-dicarboxylate) seem particularly promising for potential applications because of their excellent stability, high internal surface areas, and strongly polarizing open metal coordination sites within the channels, but to date these materials have been isolated only in racemic form. Here, we demonstrate that when appended with the chiral diamine trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane (dach), Mg2(dobpdc) adsorbs carbon dioxide cooperatively to form ammonium carbamate chains, and the thermodynamics of CO2 capture are strongly influenced by enantioselective interactions within the chiral pores of the framework. We further show that it is possible to access both enantiomers of Mg2(dobpdc) with high enantiopurity (?90%) via framework synthesis in the presence of varying quantities of d-panthenol, an inexpensive chiral induction agent. Investigation of dach-M2(dobpdc) samples following CO2 adsorption – using single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction, solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and density functional theory calculations – revealed that the ammonium carbamate chains interact extensively with each other and with the chiral M2(dobpdc) pore walls. Subtle differences in the non-covalent interactions accessible in each diastereomeric phase dramatically impact the thermodynamics of CO2 adsorption.

The structure-activity relationships of bisquinolines, a potentially important group of novel antimalarial drugs, were studied. The high-temperature (180-250C) synthesis of 4-aminoquinolines, including bisquinolines, by nucleophilic displacement was both fast and efficient. Several bisquinolines including (¡À)-trans-N1,N2-bis(7-trifluoroquinolin-4-yl) cyclohexane-1,2-diamine and 1R,2R-(-)-, 1S,2S-(+)-, (¡À)-trans- and cis-N1,N2-bis(7-chloroquinolin-4-yl)cyclohexane-1,2-diamine exhibited potent activity against Plasmodium berghei in mice; (+)-trans-N1,N2-bis(7-chloroquinolin-4-yl)cyclohexane-1,2-diamine was orally active. Our results indicate that these compounds conform to a putative receptor for quinoline antimalarials. In addition, a 7-haloquinoline linked by a heterocyclic bridge, at the 4-position, to another heterocycle (such as an acridine at the 9-position) maximally occupies the active site of our postulated target.

Eight new macrocyclic complexes were synthesized by template reaction of 1,4-bis(3-aminopropoxy)butane or (¡À)-trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane with metal nitrate and 1,2-bis(2-formylphenyl)ethane and their structures were proposed on the basis of elemental analysis, FT-IR, UV-Vis, molar conductivity measurements, 1H NMR and mass spectra. The metals to ligand molar ratios of the complexes were found to be 1: 1. The complexes are 1: 2 electrolytes for Cd(II), Pb(II) and Zn(II) complexes and 1: 3 electrolytes for La(III) as shown by their molar conductivities (Lambdam) in DMSO at 10-3 mol L-1. Due to the existence of free ions in these complexes, such complexes are electrically conductive. The configurations of Cd(II) and Zn(II) complexes were proposed to probably tetrahedral, La(III) complexes are octahedral and Pb(II) complexes are octahedral geometry in the L1 complex and tetrahedral geometry in the L2 complex.

A new Cu(II) complex [Cu(cyhxn)2(H2O)2][OTf]2 was synthesised by the reaction of ligand cyhxn (cyhxn?=?trans-cyclohexane-1,2-diamine) with Cu(OTf)2 in methanol at room temperature. The complex was fully characterized by elemental analysis (CHN), FT-IR, UV?Vis and EPR spectroscopic techniques. The structure of the complex was confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction study. The EPR spectrum is isotropic type having giso?=?2.078, which indicates a distorted octahedral geometry of the complex. The complex was found to be an active homogeneous catalyst for the homocoupling reactions of arylboronic acid to obtain symmetrical biaryls at room temperature in methanol without the use of any additives such as a base and or an oxidant.

Two routes to the synthesis of a cyclohexyl-fused 1,4,7-triazacyclononane involving macrocyclisations of tosamides have been investigated. In the first approach, using a classic Richman-Atkins-type cyclisation of a cyclohexyl-substituted 1,4,7-tritosamide with ethylene glycol ditosylate, afforded the cyclohexyl-fused 1,4,7-triazacyclononane in 5.86% overall yield in four steps. The second, more concise, approach involving the macrocyclisation of trans-cyclohexane-1,2-ditosamide with the tritosyl derivative of diethanolamine initially gave poor yields (< 25%). The well-documented problems with efficiencies in macrocyclisations using 1,2-ditosamides led to the use of a wider range of 1,2-ditosamides including ethane-1,2-ditosamide and propane-1,2-ditosamide. These extended studies led to the development of an efficient macrocyclisation protocol using lithium hydride. This new method afforded 1,4,7-tritosyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononanes in good yield (57-90%) from 1,2-ditosamides in a single step. These efficient methods were then applied to the preparation of a chiral cyclohexyl-fused 1,4,7-tritosyl-1,4,7- triazacyclononane (65-70%). This key chiral intermediate was then converted into a copper(ii) complex following detosylation and N-methylation. The resulting chiral copper(ii) complex catalysed the aziridination of styrene but it did so in a racemic fashion. This journal is The Royal Society of Chemistry. Do you like my blog? Reactions of R, R-, cis- and trans-1,2-cyclohexanediamine with lead(II) iodide in concentrated HI aqueous solution afforded three organic?inorganic hybrid compounds, [(R, R-1,2-C6H16N2)PbI4] (1), [(cis-1,2-C6H16N2)2Pb2I8]·2H2O (2) and [(trans-1,2-C6H16N2)2PbI6]·2H2O (3), respectively. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction revealed that the inorganic components in 1?3 are constructed with a 2-D monolayer perovskite sheet, a 1-D zigzag chain and only a concrete [PbI6] octahedron which were caused by the different configurations of 1,2-cyclohexanediamine. In addition, 1?3 have been investigated by UV?vis, TG analysis and fluorescence spectra.
